Busted Stitch

Unknowingly my neighbor busted a stitch in my vulnerable
Raw and mangled it spilled everywhere
It took me too long to realize the seams had always been poorly tacked at best
I scooped it up to ask, but the hurt strangled tight

I knocked on the door and rung the bell
Left a note under the gnome and wrote it in the sky
To ask for a needle or a bit of thread
Anything to piece it back together again
To ask for a cut of wax or a dab of salve
Anything to seal the wound, give it a safe layer to heal
But my neighbor hadn’t the time

Unknowingly I busted a stitch in my neighbor’s vulnerable
Never a word, but it slipped from another
A jab
Blade twisted in the depth of my soft spot
The last seam I’d ever wish to knick

I knocked on the door and rung the bell
Left a note under the gnome and wrote it in the sky
To offer a needle or a bit of thread
Anything to piece it back together again
To offer a cut of wax or a dab of salve
Anything to seal the wound, give it a safe layer to heal
But my neighbor hadn’t the time

Said that it had no stitches to bust
No seams to pucker
No pierceable shell
Said everything's fine

I was the farthest from fine
But my neighbor hadn’t the time
No time to lend
No time to borrow

I packaged a needle and a bit of thread,
A cut of wax and a dab of salve
Left it for my neighbor with a note under the gnome
I’m forever sorry and I hope this helps

I picked up a needle and a bit of thread,
A cut of wax and a dab of salve
Pieced together my vulnerable, sealed safe to heal
I’m all out of sorry, I didn't have help
No longer will I ask my neighbor for the time
